Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information for the WifiOTT mobile application (the "App") and this website (the "Site"). WifiOTT is designed for local, private media streaming on your network. We built it with privacy by design.

Summary

✓The App does not collect, store, or transmit personal data to us or any third party by default. Data collection may occur when Personalized ads are enabled, which can be controlled in the Ads&Privacy settings.

✓Your media files and playback take place entirely on your device and local network.

✓The Site uses Google Analytics to understand usage patterns and improve your experience. See details below.

✓Advertising networks may be used in the app to keep it free. These networks operate independently and have their own privacy policies. WifiOTT does not collect or share your personal data with them.

The App: Data Collection

The WifiOTT App is designed with privacy as a core principle. By default, we do not collect any personal data from the App. Specifically, we do not collect:

  • •Account details, names, email addresses, or phone numbers
  • •Crash reports or device diagnostics sent to us
  • •Media metadata, viewing history, or playback information transmitted to us

Personalized Ads Data Collection

When Personalized ads are enabled in the app, advertising networks may collect certain data (such as device identifiers, advertising IDs, and general location information) to serve you relevant advertisements. This data collection only occurs when personalized ads are enabled.

You can control this setting and opt out of personalized ads at any time through the Ads&Privacy settings in the app, which is accessible via the drawer menu on the left side of the app interface.

Processing That Happens Locally (On Your Device)

To make WifiOTT work, some processing happens only on your device and/or within your local network. No data from this processing is sent to us:

  • •Discovery and communication with local devices (e.g., DLNA/UPnP-capable players)
  • •Indexing local media files to display them in the App
  • •Playback and transcoding tasks required for streaming within your network

Permissions Used by the App and Why

The App requests the following permissions for core functionality only:

  • •Local network / Wi‑Fi access: to discover and stream to devices on your network and to serve content locally.
  • •Storage/Media access: to read media files you explicitly select or store on your device.
  • •Network state: to ensure streaming works and to adapt to connectivity changes.

You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings.

The Website: Analytics and Data Collection

Unlike the App, this website uses Google Analytics to help us understand how visitors use the site and to improve your experience. Here's what we collect:

Google Analytics collects: Page views, session duration, device type, browser information, and general location (country/region level).

We do not collect: Personal identifiers, email addresses, or any information that directly identifies you.

Cookies, Local Storage, and Logs

  • •The App: Uses no cookies or trackers.
  • •The Site: We may store a basic, non-identifying preference (such as theme or consent status) in your browser's local storage.
  • •Server logs: Our hosting provider may process transient server logs (e.g., IP address, user agent, request metadata) to deliver the Site and protect against abuse. We do not use these logs to identify you.

Third-Party Services

  • •Google Play: When installing from Google Play, Google may process data in accordance with its own policies. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • •Google Analytics (Website only): Used to track website usage and improve user experience.

Advertising Networks in the App

Important: WifiOTT itself does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data from the app.

However, to keep the app free, we may use advertising networks that display ads within the app. These advertising networks may collect certain data to serve you relevant advertisements. This is standard practice for free apps and helps us continue offering WifiOTT at no cost to you.

What this means for you:

  • ✓Your media files and streaming activity remain completely private and are never shared with ad networks or anyone else.
  • ✓WifiOTT does not collect data about your media library, viewing habits, or device usage.
  • ✓Ad networks operate independently and have their own privacy policies. You can control ad personalization through your device settings.

If the app uses advertising networks, they may collect information such as device identifiers, general location (country/region level), and app usage patterns to show you relevant ads. This data collection is handled by the advertising network, not by WifiOTT.

Advertising Networks We May Use:

  • •Start.io: If Start.io is used in the app, they may collect data according to their privacy policy. You can learn more and opt-out at Start.io's Privacy Policy.

You can opt-out of personalized advertising through the app's Ads&Privacy settings(accessible via the drawer menu on the left) or through your device settings:

  • •In-App: Open the drawer menu (left side) → Ads&Privacy settings → Disable Personalized ads
  • •Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Reset advertising ID / Opt out of Ads Personalization
  • •iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising → Limit Ad Tracking

Children's Privacy

The App and Site are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Data Retention and Deletion

The App: Because the App does not collect personal data, there is nothing for us to retain. Uninstalling the App will remove App data stored on your device.

The Website: Google Analytics data is retained according to Google's policies (typically 26 months). You can clear your browser's local storage at any time via your browser settings.

Legal Bases (GDPR) and Your Rights

The App: We do not process personal data in the App, so GDPR does not apply to App usage.

The Website: For Google Analytics, the legal basis is our legitimate interests in providing a secure, reliable service and understanding user behavior (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

Depending on your location, you may have rights under GDPR/CCPA (e.g., access, deletion, opt-out). You can opt out of Google Analytics by visiting Google's opt-out page. For other requests, please contact us.
